Overview

The years following the end of the Reconstruction period of the south, left many southern states broke. Texas was no different, except they had something the northern states didn't due to the war. The tale begins during the civil war on the Island of Galveston with the Union Army occuping the city of Galveston, the assualt and eventual death of a Union Officers wife he left there, presumably to be away from the fighting. Then the jumps sixteen years into the future where the officer, now a inn keeper in Round Rock Texas, learns that three of the eight who assualted and caused the death of his wife are still alive. Convincing the local cattle association to sign a herd of misbranded cattle over to him (that tale in book one) he enlists the aid of his new son in law for a cattle drive as cover to keep the buyers in Dodge during the early winter months so he can seek his vengeance.
