OverviewWhen the Guardian dies in Rome the new Defender of the Faith travels to England to visit a boyhood friend, With a relic of the First Temple they use the coronation Stone to summons Jacob's Ladder to appear; witnessed by the Queen along with other members of Court. Together they go up to Scotland to convince the General Assembly to unite in common prayer. They look in the castle were they lived as boys for a reserve royal treasury that contains the Titles and land grants given to the Barons who had promised to support the King. The Assembly deploys a band of Scottish mercenaries who had just returned from fighting in the Thirty Years War. They're charged with capturing the King and retrieving the Titles and Deeds. When the King finds out that his mother-in-law is on her way to visit her daughter, he quickly draws up a treaty with the Assembly and rushes off the head her off. London is not safe, and the King turns again to his friend to negotiate Marie's return to France as he is the only one who could. So the Queen, her Mother, the children with his friend escape to France as shades of civil war grow, leaving King Charles to his faith.
