Overview

Footsteps Of His Flock -1918 is a compilation of the Christian Science Monitors' Home Forum Page Religious articles now in paperback books. Every year from 1914 to 1921 has been researched, typed, and printed and is now available to the public. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL HOME FORUM PAGE ARTICLES that were originally published under the authority of Mary Baker Eddy's 1898 Deed of Trust by the Trustees of the Christian Science Publishing Society-Herbert W. Eustace, David B. Ogden and Lamont Rowlands. The Christian Science Monitor Home Forum Pages printed many superb articles during 1918. World War I, for America, was at its peak, and the Scientists were busy writing many war-time articles, which are absolutely amazing in that they are writings geared not only for the wartime soldier, but also applicable to the Christian Science Soldier. For example, the following excerpt from The Soldier article of May 9, 1918 is especially insightful: The Bible is preeminently the book of the soldier. He is honored in it from cover to cover. When the patriarch Jacob had wrestled with and overcome a false sense of life in matter he was renamed. 'He had conquered material error', says Mrs. Eddy on page 309 of Science and Health, 'with the understanding of Spirit and of spiritual power. This changed the man. He was no longer called Jacob, but Israel, -a prince of God, or a soldier of God, who had fought a good fight.' The name, therefore, of 'soldier' is a most fitting one for every Christian. The Effect of Courage, The Wise Shall Understand, Light In Their Dwellings, The Secret Place of the Most High, Kaspar Hauser, The Host on The Mountain-side, The Daring of Mortal Mind, The Fortress of Spirit, Love and Fear and Red Tape are some of the outstanding articles. Also, the positive and negative brilliantly are contrasted in Philosophic Idealism and Christian Science and The Finite, the Opposite of the Infinite. Every article has wisdom for the Christian Scientist. World War I ended on November 11, 1918, but a new war was starting among the Board of Directors and the Trustees of the Christian Science Publishing Society. September 11, 1918 the Board of Directors held a joint meeting with the Trustees, which culminated in a letter of September 30, 1918 where the Trustees defined the true democracy of Christian Science, which is known as the Second Declaration of Independence. This document can be found at www.HerbertWEustace.com. During 1918 Frederick Dixon also wrote four articles that were a bone of contention to the Board of Directors and were even cited in the Great Litigation. They are: Lusting after Lust, The Lust of Power, The Lust of Money and Looking Ahead. They originally appeared in the Christian Science Monitor on four successive Saturdays beginning June 15, 1918 and continuing through July 6, 1918. Considered outstanding articles of the day, there was a great demand for reprints, so the articles were bound together in pamphlet form entitled PURIFICATION and copyrighted in 1919. These insightful articles are included in Footsteps-1918 and also can be found in the pamphlet entitled Purification at ChristianScienceBookStore.com or Amazon.com.
