Fonologia generativa contemporanea de la lengua espanola

Overview

This comprehensive book provides an introduction to the latest concepts and principles of phonological analysis and applies these theories to the study of the Spanish language. With this helpful text, scholars and teachers of Hispanic linguistics will at last have access to the pertinent phonological issues, arguments, and data - all in one place, and in Spanish. This research-oriented study presents the most recent generative phonological theories and uses them to interpret Spanish data. In its discussion of phonological developments since the publication in 1968 of the revolutionary study, Chomsky's and Halle's The Sound Pattern of English , the book demonstrates how newer models of understanding are able to explain linguistic phenomena that older hypotheses could not adequately address. This essential reference will bring scholars of Spanish linguistics to the forefront of knowledge in phonological research. Containing numerous examples and easily adapted for classroom use, Fonologia generativa contemporanea de la lengua espanola will also be required reading for advanced undergraduate and graduate Spanish students learning Spanish phonology for the first time.

Reviews

The sum total of the concepts and their applications presented here, along with the excellent theoretical background and explanations of debate among theorists, make this work an excellent overview of modern Generative Phonology theory for instructors, students, and those interested in the mental processes that govern oral language production and the sounds that produce discourse. -- Hispania
