Follow the Money: How George W. Bush and the Texas Republicans Hog-Tied America

Audio Format

Overview

Follow the Money is a harrowing behind-the-scenes account of how a cabal of powerful, tightly connected Texas Republicans have quietly hijacked American politics for their own personal gain. It tells the story of how the Texas political system came to be hijacked by a sophisticated, well-funded group of conservative Republicans who, once they were able to elevate George W. Bush to president, then went about applying their hardball, high-dollar politicking to Washington, D.C. This book tells who did it, how they did it, and what they did. In Follow the Money, John Anderson explains what has happened in such diverse yet Texas-connected realms as tort reform, labor policy, energy policy, congressional redistricting schemes, Washington lobby practices, tax law changes, the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice, and many more that affect the future of this country.

Reviews

Dick Hill is an excellent choice to steer the listener through this account.... Hill presents the text with a straightforward delivery that catches the author's nuance and emphasis, irony and outrage.-- ""AudioFile"" ""John Anderson's Follow the Money shows that when George W. Bush, Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzales, and others arrived in Washington, DC, in 2000, they brought with them the Texan Republican way of getting things done. While Americans were fixated on terrorism and the war in Iraq, the corruption never stopped in Washington. Combining the curiosity of a journalist with the perspective of a historian, John Anderson brilliantly lays it all out for the reader, whose jaw will drop when seeing what--even today--passes for political leadership and representation of the people in our nation's capital."" -- ""Craig Unger, author of House of Bush, House of Saud"" ""Using primary sources (including private emails) and making use of Bush-era reportage, Anderson penetrates the Texas political scene and its outposts in Washington, producing a vivid portrait of a movement for which the Bush family is merely the most visible part."" -- ""Publishers Weekly""
