OverviewA Great War aviation classic, the recollections of Vivian Voss, writing under pseudonym Roger Vee, a Canadian pilot operating Bristol fighters with 48 and 88 Squadrons during 1917-18. The story of training in Canada is a particularly interesting aspect, and the action narrative when he reaches the Western Front, flying Bristol F2b Fighters is amongst the best first-hand accounts of the war in the air. One particular anecdote worth noting is when flying his Bristol he was chased by several Fokker DR1 triplanes. In a shallow dive trying to escape them, when he notices his Observer has stopped firing, looking back to see why, he observes that his Observer has ran out of ammunition, and is hurling empty Lewis gun drum magazines, and anything else not fixed down at the chasing German pilots!
