Flying Alaska After 50

Overview

This book is about a temporary flying job that turned into a life changing career. Flying bush Alaska was far more interesting than being a general building contractor. It was a chance to fly thousands of hours over some of the most beautiful country there is. I was fortunate to meet many people including movie stars and famous sports figures. Even ordinary guys like me who were living their dreams to hunt and fish in Alaska. The flying was not always easy. I flew year around in wind, rain, fog and snow. In the winter months the days were short and often bitterly cold. Although some medical emergency flights were quite dangerous, none of the thousands of my passengers ever got a scratch.

He was drafted into the army one month after graduating, before he could get his pilot's license. His flying was delayed by two years in the Army and then college, where he earned a BA in biology with a minor in chemistry. While working for a pharmaceutical company he completed his flying lessons and obtained his pilot's license. Over the next several years he built a homebuilt airplane of his own design and restored several other classic factory built aircraft. Upon moving from Oregon to Anchorage, Alaska, he started a small general contracting business, and obtained a commercial license with multi-engine and instrument ratings. He met and married his wife who was a private pilot and also appreciated
