OverviewIn 2185 a cataclysmic event left the whole world-and almost every child born since-blind. In this dark new era, society has rebuilt itself without colour, without prejudice-or so it claims. At 28, Grace Bartlet dreams of a world long gone, a time of legendary heroes and grand adventure. Living at home with her parents and engaged to a man who doesn't share her passion for the past, she is bored and increasingly uncertain about her future-until a man bursts into her home and turns everything upside down. Is he there to fire her irascible father or is he the murderer the police have been hunting in her neighbourhood? Or might he be something even more dangerous: a mutant with the ability to see what is hidden from the world and reveal the family's secrets? As the perils increase, the line between hero and villain blurs and Grace must confront the question at the heart of this broken world: If everyone is blind will there still be racism? Or does prejudice simply find a new form? From the ruins of a sightless world to a final reckoning on the shores of ancient Marathon, Flowers in the Dark is a dystopian thriller about love, power and what it really means to see.
