Flow: Santa Fe River Poems

Overview

Cynthia West says, ""The Santa Fe River, that I've walked almost daily throughout the seasons, is my friend, my mentor, my muse and my inspiration. I owe many of these poems to her. Harvesting the years, I've gathered armloads of the bright times and the dark, shaped them into windows opening on views of the understanding that breathes all life. I've honored the gold of relationships as one body, one family of friends, ancestors, plants, animals and all beings. In sunlight, moonlight and starlight, I've sung the love without which there is no art."" Known for her visionary paintings, West is also a poet, photographer, digital imager and book artist. Her home and garden, in the Santa Fe River Valley, where she has lived for over fifty years with her husband and family, is a healing center as well as her studio and gallery. Her works are collected worldwide. Visit her website: cynthiawestvision.com Cynthia is the author of nine collections of poetry: For Beauty Way, 1990, 1000 Stone Buddhas, 1993, The Seasons of Tea, 2010 and Visionary Paintings, 2019, published by Inked Wingbeat, Santa Fe. Rainbringer, 2004, The New Sun, 2007, In the Center of the Field, 2010, A Clear Drop, 2015 and Seed Keepers, 2023, were published by Sunstone Press, Santa Fe. In her poem, ""Past the Limits,"" Cynthia West reminds us to ""Drink from the current inside you."" As a reader, I feel Cynthia's current is a partnership with the unlimited voices of the world around her. A child-hearted poet, she responds by singing along with the many moods of her nearby river where she is baptized over and over again. Cynthia breathes and dances with the clapping of dove wings. She moves with the chant of blue corn leaves in the autumn of her years. Her poems are as nourishing as the smell of warm bread. Cynthia sings the dreams of the river inside the river. She does not hide her love. Listen. - James McGrath, Partnership Poet This book is an offering to our broken world. May we receive the teachings. They are ""roses ringing with late summer,"" timeless stones, the river's music to our ears. Let us celebrate her life and what she has given us: that which restores our connection to each other and the world. You who read these pages, hold a treasure in your two hands. - Cynthia Jurs Guiding Teacher, Gaia Mandala Sangha; Founder, Alliance for the Earth Author, Summoned by the Earth
