Author Information

Kathryn S. Orvis is a professor and associate head of the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Department at Purdue University. A nationally recognized leader in horticultural education, she integrates teaching, Extension, and research to engage youth through gardening, plant science, and urban agriculture. She has authored more than twenty peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and curricula, securing more than $1 million in grants. Her honors include an American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) Outstanding Undergraduate Educator Award and a Purdue Cooperative Extension Specialist Career Award. Orvis's work focuses on using plants to teach plant science, STEM, and a variety of life skills.
