Overview

The diversity of plant species in China is extraordinary. With an area approximately that of the continental United States, China has nearly twice as many vascular plant species, about 30,000 or one-eighth of the world's total. The Flora of China describes and otherwise documents these species, and these volumes of beautifully detailed illustrations, drawn by the finest Chinese botanical artists, complement the species descriptions in the text volumes. Peter H. Raven is president emeritus of the Missouri Botanical Garden. An internationally renowned botanist and conservation advocate, he is the author of numerous books and has received a number of honors and awards, including the National Medal of Science and a MacArthur Fellowship.
