Reese Voshell, Jr. was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He holds degrees from Randolph-Macon College (B.S., 1969) and Virginia Tech (Ph.D., Zoology, 1976), and has taught in the Department of Entomology at Virginia Tech since 1976. He has received numerous research grants to study the effects of pollution and environmental stress on freshwater invertebrates and has been named to the University's Academy of Teaching Excellence. Reese lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Floyd County, Virginia. During his 35 years of teaching and research, Reese has taught high school classes, college courses, and numerous outreach activities - all of which have brought him into contact with audiences ranging from small children to elderly adults. This lengthy and diverse teaching/outreach experience, coupled with his equally lengthy research on the biology and ecology of freshwater invertebrates, has prepared him well to create teaching/learning resources on the subject that are, in the minds of many users, the very best available. Reese authored A Guide to Common Freshwater Invertebrates of North America in 2002, followed by Flash Cards of Common Freshwater Invertebrates of North America and QuickGuide to Major Groups of Freshwater Invertebrates in 2009. Amy Bartlett Wright is a highly esteemed professional artist and scientific illustrator of natural history subjects with numerous books, murals, and diverse other illustrations to her credit.
