Table of ContentsReviewsA simple and heartwarming tale, Flash tells the story of an abandoned mother cat and her journey to find a family through the eyes of one of her kittens. A stray female cat appeared on a hobby farm one day. As with any abandoned animal, her backstory is a mystery. Over time she learns to trust humans and has a litter of kittens on the farm, whose escapades are documented up through the time they find new homes. The beautiful artwork accompanying the story helps bring author Mary Lynn Kluss's words to life. Children will love the story, but any animal lover can see the poignancy in the plight of unwanted animals. In order to help end overpopulation and promote spay / neuter programs, 25% of the book's profits will benefit the Fond du Lac Humane Society, Wisconsin. -Amy Thomas, Treasurer on the Board of the Fond du Lac Humane Society I loved reading Flash to my granddaughter. Mary's passion for animals was clear throughout the book, and the happy ending made it a great bed time read. -Tracy Lindgren, Grandmother I very much enjoyed the layout and illustrations in Flash. The story depicted is one that commonly happens when caring people take in strays. -David J. Baemment, Kiel Veterinary Service in Kiel, Wisconsin I gifted this wonderful book to my toddler niece and older nephew. They absolutely loved the story of Flash and felt deeply emotionally connected to the narrative. The illustration is uniquely beautiful; it's clear to see Kluss put a lot of heart into the book. The messages are vital, heartfelt, and touching. I highly recommend this book. -Anastasia Skliavova, Sales Representative First, the artwork in FLASH is beautifully textured & detailed and worth the price of purchase alone. It accurately and sweetly portrays small farm family life, using the voice of a cat whose mother was a rescue. The story is simple but with a serious message about animal welfare. Depending on the age of the child being read to, the illustrations can encourage many different types of discussions throughout its pages. When reading out loud to a very young child, I would skip the Introduction pages and the Epilogue and just follow the story itself. It can also be a good discussion starter with young readers who chose to read the epilogue. Flash's tale teaches empathy throughout its pages and animal lovers will appreciate that the author speaks to the child through the kitten, but also directly to the adult. This is a true story - if you buy the Kindle version you do not get to see the back cover, which has photographs of the actual kittens in the story. And, 25% of the profits go to the Wisconsin Humane Society. I talked with all my readers before writing this review and, in sum I think this is a great gift item for animal-loving families who want to share their values though discussions fostered by this beautifully crafted family-friendly treasure. -Christine Falls, Attorney ""A simple and heartwarming tale, Flash tells the story of an abandoned mother cat and her journey to find a family through the eyes of one of her kittens. I am a locally, renowned portrait artist who has operated a hand painted, portrait business in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin since 1998. See my web site at heavenlyacresart.com. This is my first book about unwanted animals, a subject that is dear to my heart. I have witnessed actual abuse of animals; but, by far the worst abuse is neglect because there is no visible evidence upon which officials can base enforcement of laws. In other words, if the animal is not dead, or near death, the official cannot take any action to save the animals and then in most cases, it is too late anyway. Therefore, I have vowed to use my voice and talent to produce testament to the suffering of defenseless, domesticated animals. See the above picture of me holding Little Girl, Flash's mother, who gave us five beautiful kittens. Luckily she found a home with us at our Heavenly Acres Farm and the story has a happy ending; but, it could have ended in severe suffering up to and including death. To order the book go to Amazon.com or my author facebook page. Let it be known that 25% of all profits from the sale of the book will go to the Humane Society. .
