Overview

Flame & Flurry presents photographs taken of the Methow Valley Hand Crew during Summer-Fall of 2023. The crew, a type 2 initial attack crew, is responsible for responding to on-district fires, as the main arm for prescribed fire management, and for spending multiple weeks out of the year traveling off-district assisting on other fire assignments as dictated by need and the local Fire Management Officer. All this to say- while ""hotshot"" firefighters aka type 1 resources, retain much status for their suppression efforts, this book aims to represent the diversity in work and landscape associated with the lesser known type 2 crews, let alone most other land management agency employees who participate in fire as it pertains to the health of the landscape.
