Overview

Tales written and illustrated by 28 local children ages 7-12, with the help of authors in a pro bono Seattle writing workshop over five terms of collective effort. Each chapter follows the plot of a classic fairytale or story from the USA, China, France, Scotland, or Martinique; we actually rewrote the originals in our own language. Set in Seattle city streets, parks and waterways, and dealing with universal struggles we all share, these tales will surprise you with their wit, humor, and relevance. As if they happened right next door... They will make you laugh! And they will give you hope. Bonus: includes photo of Write YOUR Story team, Fall 2013, with their book The Not So Ordinary Family, in South Bend, Indiana. LIST OF AUTHORS: Aiden Bell, Isla Bell, Shea Bradbury, Hadley Dertinger, Ruah DeWeese, Anyssa Dugan, Kylie Dugan, Zoe Entzminger, Edison Gilmore, Blake H., Sophia Heathcote, Hera Caprica Ho, Evan Jacolev, Sophie Jacolev, Izzy K., Anna L., Asnina M., Mira Parikh, Vivianna Pinkerton, Zakari S., Evalina Serrano, Laranya Sethi, Haven Stine, Andrew Streit, Helene Torres, Henry Torres, Eleanor Warren, and Luca Watling. With the help of teachers Elaina Harris, Shepherd Siegel, and Julia Douthwaite Viglione

Author Information

Julia Douthwaite Viglione, mother of two, was a professor of French at the University of Notre Dame from 1991-2018. Although a prize-winning author and college teacher, she left academia and returned to her hometown Seattle in 2018, where she now lives with her husband and a frisky white pup named Sugar (and formerly, with the beloved Shepherd mix named Honey Girl: the inspiration for her small business). Since 2012, she has been teaching a free semester-long workshop called ""Write YOUR Story"" for children ages 7 to 12. In 2018, she started offering that workshop in Seattle and continues to do so today. Working with children is a labor of love; it provides creative energy and happiness for her ongoing work as a creator of textile art via Honey Girl Books and Gifts: https: //www.honeygirlbooks.com/ Janel Twogood is an owner at Reishyo Fine Art & Design. Janel lives and works in the Boston area. Her studio is located in Pawtucket, RI.
