Five Element Acupuncture

Overview

PREFACE Praise be to God, and blessings be upon his Messenger, who gave me the opportunity to finish this book called ""Five element acupuncture"" after the books ""Systematic acupuncture"" and ""Ear acupuncture"" and present it to you, the reader. Acupuncture is a part of TCM and requires looking at the person from a holistic perspective. Acupuncture education and training is a very enjoyable process. It requires a long marathon. Unfortunately, I have witnessed many physician friends who did not use the correct method in this marathon, abandoning this race. I frequently used the art of simile in the approach in this book, where we explain acupuncture through a sequence of logic. Thus, abstract subjects and concepts that were difficult to understand by friends trained in Western Medicine became much easier to understand. If the reader learns this science in line with the principles I have explained, he will be able to make his own prescription for all kinds of diseases and will avoid being a point acupuncturist. In the book, I touched upon the basic acupuncture information that I deemed necessary regarding my subject, and tried to give the message I wanted to give directly, without extending the subject too much. I drew a picture for you in the book. I did not draw the whole picture, but the parts that I deemed important. I went into detail on some pieces that serve as touchstones to understand the whole picture. Thus, when the reader fully understands the cornerstone parts of the picture, he will be able to fill in the gaps in the picture very easily. This style of narration enabled us to convey, in a short content, a subject that could only be understood if volumes of books were written. Therefore, do not be fooled by the small volume of the book. The knowledge you will gain from many reference books that explain the subject in detail will not be more than the knowledge you will gain from this book. The book was written with an English translation. This book, in which acupuncture enthusiasts will find answers to many issues that they cannot understand, will fill a huge gap in its field with the explanations it provides on many issues whose boundaries are not clear. DEFINITION OF ACUPUNCTURE According to TCM, each organ has its own energy channel called meridian. When the energy flow in these meridians is interrupted for any reason, meridian-related or organ-related symptoms may occur. Let's expand this sentence a little by looking at the course of the lung meridian. The lung meridian starts from the thorax, passes through the shoulder, arm, elbow and wrist and ends at the thumb (Figure-1). When there is a blockage in energy along the course of the meridian, musculoskeletal diseases such as shoulder pain, elbow pain, wrist pain or finger pain may occur. Or, if pain does not occur, it may be reflected clinically in the form of skin paresthesia or skin rashes along the course of the meridian. The disease may not be reflected in the clinic due to problems related to the meridian course. It may also occur with organ-related symptoms. If we continue with the lung example, the patient may present with organ-related symptoms such as cough, hoarseness, and shortness of breath.

Author Information

I was born in Samsun Çarşamba in 1977. I completed my primary, secondary and high school education in Çarşamba. I was accepted to Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and graduated in 2001. I completed my ENT specialization at Ankara Numune Education and Research Hospital. Between 2001 and 2015, I worked at Kaman State Hospital, Ardahan State Hospital and various private hospitals in Ankara. In 2015-2016, I became interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine and started researching and reading in this direction. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a medical system that includes many treatment options. Since acupuncture treatment is the most important of these options and Traditional Chinese Medicine education in our country is mainly given through acupuncture, I focused my research more in this direction. The fact that most of the resources about acupuncture are in English and that I do not know English well enough was my biggest obstacle. My interest in acupuncture helped me learn enough English to understand what I was reading. As I read, I saw that acupuncture did not have a standard application method and that there were many different schools in different parts of the world. I had embarked on such a path that my interest and love for acupuncture had reached a level I could not describe.I decided to continue the education process by getting a certificate. In 2017, I attended the certified course opened by Yıldırım Beyazıt University and completed my education. Of course, acupuncture training is not a branch of science that you can say ""it's over now"". I believe that the best way to learn is to share what you have learned with others. This belief led me to write two books in 2019, ""Systematic Acupuncture"" and ""Ear Acupuncture"". Theoretical knowledge that is not put into practice is doomed to be forgotten. During this process, I wanted to put my knowledge into practice and write a new book that would be easily understood by everyone in the light of the experiences I gained. I am currently practicing my profession in a private medical center. I am married and have two children. Op. Dr. Adnan Uzun
