Overview

When June Knight, fourteen years old and the TV spokeskid for Yummy Nibbles, ""the dog food dogs love more than people love people food,"" decides that she wants to break into the movies, her agent Morty comes up with a scheme to get her some national publicity: June pretends to sue her parents for emancipation and moves into the attic of a nearby boarding house, where neighborhood vandals have altered the ""ROOM TO LET"" sign out front to read ""ROOMY TOILET."" When things begin mysteriously disappearing from the other tenants' rooms, newcomer June is the obvious suspect, and to prove her innocence, she decides to take on the most important role of her career and play sleuth. Reviews

""Josh Pachter's First Week Free at the Roomy Toilet grabs you from the first page with a witty voice, snappy pace, and June's fun character. The mystery is solid yet unexpected, with twists that keep the reader and June on her toes. As a spokesperson for Yummy Nibbles (dog food), June's perspective and character bring a fresh angle to the young reader book space. Young mystery readers will love the mystery, quirky residents in the Roomy Toilet, and June, who inhabits the adult world in a fun way."" - Fleur Bradley, Anthony- and Agatha-nominated author of Midnight at the Barclay Hotel and Daybreak on Raven Island ""From the brilliantly absurd (or perhaps just absurdly brilliant) mind of Josh Pachter comes a fantastic middle-grade-to-low-YA debut, First Week Free at the Roomy Toilet. Filled with winks, nods, and clever wordplay, First Week Free had me grinning ear-to-ear from start to an ending chock full of twists and turns I never saw coming."" - KB Jackson, Agatha-winning author of the Sasquatch Hunters series ""This was an enjoyable book that I could not put down, quickly becoming a page-turner as I had to know how it was going to end. The mystery was nicely executed, with bits and pieces here and there and a few twists and turns to keep this reader engaged throughout. With visually descriptive narrative and engaging dialogue, the story put me in the middle of the action-and when I thought I had it all figured out, events cascaded with surprises that enhanced my reading pleasure. Overall, a delightfully charming entree into the middle-grade-to-low-YA arena."" - Dru Ann Love, dru's book musings ""A charming book that can be enjoyed by both adults and younger readers."" - Grace Topping, author of the Laura Bishop series
