Overview

It is 90,000 years ago. On the edge of becoming adults, our two main characters are twins, a girl and a boy who participate in important decisions on how to survive. They face the desperate challenges of climate change and the dangers of terrifying wild animals as their tribe is forced to make life changing decisions to stay alive. The story gives younger readers insights into the historical facts of the time, the heartache and the challenges our ancestors once faced and how they overcame them. Finally, the tribe decides to separate, with one group (Sahul) heading south to warmer climates, and the other group (Sunda) heading north to follow the game and hunt mammoths in the snow. What is to happen after Sunda and Sahul are separated? Where do they go? Find out in Books 2 and 3.

Author Information

Andrew began writing children's theater and film scripts a few years ago, with grants from the QE2 Arts Council and Film Victoria. He has published occasional short stories, this series - Sunda & Sahul - is his first major book publishing event.The idea for these stories evolved during the Covid 19 pandemic lockdowns in Melbourne, where he had time to reflect on how humans handled major challenges tens of thousands of years ago when we all had brown skin and the climate was changing. There are five stories in this series, tracing the descendants of the twins, Sunda and Sahul, each story spaced around 15,000 years apart. The last two stories are set in Australia and France.
