Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Alan Thomson has been President of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology, a member of the Bockus Society, two-term Governor for Western Canada for the American College of Gastroenterology, winner of the prestigious University Cup in 2001, a recipient of the Gold Medal in Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Canada), Chief Royal College examiner in Gastroenterology, Director of the Division of Gastroenterology, three-time Teacher of the Year at the University of Alberta, Award for Excellence in Mentoring Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows, and awarded Distinguished University Professor. Dr. Thomson is a Distinguished Emeritus University Professor, University of Alberta, and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Western University. Eldon Shaffer is a Gastroenterologist who has held leadership positions in academic Medicine. At a national level, he was the first and founding President of Canadian Association for Study of the Liver; President, Canadian Association of Gastroenterology; President, Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation; Chair of the Medical Advisory Board, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation; President, Canadian Professors of Medicine; and Chair, Finance Committee of the Alberta Society of Gastroenterology. He currently is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, University of Calgary. Tanja Gonska is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, University of Toronto, with a subspecialty focus on paediatric pancreas diseases and Cystic Fibrosis. She holds an appointment at the Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children and the Institute of Medical Science, Toronto. Following Medical school in Muenster, Paediatric Residency training at the Children's Hospital in Freiburg, Germany, and Fellowship training at the Hospital for Sick Children, Further, her innovative approach to develop new measures of functional outcome supports current strategies to cure Cystic Fibrosis disease.
