He was educated in Canada and before joining HQ AG he was the chief reporter for the MOD in-house publication Focus. He spent six weeks in Iraq writing stories about the Army's hearts and minds campaign. He has had several articles published in speciality magazines in the UK. He is a keen photographer and has had his pictures published in Focus and Soldier.
