Overview

The task sheets and associated job performance requirements (JPRs) included in this task booklet are based on the 2020 Edition of NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. Together, these will allow a supervising officer(s) to track and evaluate completion of the assigned task by the candidate. The candidate's progress in gaining the experience necessary to achieve competency in a future officer role(s) can be properly documented with the use of this task booklet. It is expected that specific guidelines for the development of JPR assignments, time to completion, and any prerequisites required to enter this phase of training would be developed by the authority having jurisdiction. These items can vary based on the department's job/position expectations, local/state regulations, or department structure. When properly used, this task booklet, together with Fire Officer: Principles and Practice, Fourth Edition and Chief Officer: Principles and Practice, Third Edition curriculums, provide a comprehensive training program for future fire service officers that address both the education and experience necessary to be successful.
