Paul Hashagen has been fighting fires since 1976. In 2003 he retired from the FDNY after twenty-five years of service, with twenty of those years in Rescue Company 1 in Manhattan. He is a former chief of the Freeport Fire Department and is still an active member of Truck Company 1. Paul, a contributing editor at Firehouse Magazine, has written several books on the history of the fire service. Paul is also working on a major project called: One Hundred Years of Valor, Rescue 1 FDNY 1915-2015. This in-depth look at the inner working of the famed rescue company is expected to be ready for release in 2015, Rescue 1's Centennial Year. It will cover major fires, spectacular rescues, various apparatus and interesting highlights of the unique company's history.
