I don't even refer to myself anymore as an Evangelical or even a Christian - just someone who loves Jesus and is trying to follow Him. It wasn't until I read Rob Schenck's Costly Grace in 2018 and then found John Fea's Believe Me and now Stan Moody's writing that I have regained courage. Stan's book will be known and appreciated for its honesty and forthrightness. We are all sinners, saved by grace. Thank you, Stan, for emphasizing that in your book. --Meg Chorpenning Matthew 25 mandates visiting people in prison. But, as Rev. Moody points out, Christ also invites us to advocate for their release. As a pastor and former prison chaplain, Stan has devoted much of his adult life to encouraging the confessing Church to face outward and address the needs of the poor and disenfranchised in our culture. Anyone who takes the time to read this appeal to our Christian faith will be amply rewarded. --Charles Sullivan President, International CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants) Stan has demonstrated the need for all Christians to trust in God's leading - a challenge every believer has. He has helped me more with his teaching and example than at any time in my Christian walk and bolstered my confidence in my role as a member of this church family. --Mark Tuck Deacon Chair, Columbia Street Baptist Church Stan Moody's passion for putting faith into action is alive in the words of this compelling book and in the fruits of his ministry. Dr. Moody's efforts to address this nation's unconscionable incarceration of 2.3 million U. S. citizens, most of them poor people of color, have transformed the lives of the incarcerated, their families, and communities throughout the United States. His efforts to ensure that returning citizens are treated with dignity and given opportunities to become significant contributors to society are highly regarded. At a time when many are using words designed to incite fear, polarize, and restrict thinking, Moody has delivered a tome that invites us to challenge our understanding of what it means to love Christ and the communities in which we live. It is a must read for those seeking to go beyond the traditional teachings of the Evangelical Christian Right and destructive legalism. --Dr. Marilyn Turner-Triplett Director (Retired), American Baptist Home Mission Societies Author InformationDr. Stan Moody is founder and president of Columbia Street Project, a resource center for social justice. Former prison chaplain, Maine state representative, and Senior Pastor of Columbia Street Baptist Church, Bangor, Maine, he has a long history as a passionate advocate for justice and is the author of multiple books.
