This brief examines the impact of the illicit traffic in counterfeit medical productsWorld Health Organization in sub-Saharan Africa. It is shown that transnational criminal networks take advantage of institutional deficiencies, corruption and legal weaknesses to integrate supply chains and divert funds allocated to public health. The study examines the structure of these networks, their modus operandi and the factors that facilitate their establishment. It then assesses the scope of international and regional legal instruments, before analyzing how these criminal dynamics influence the financial governance of the World Health Organization.World Health Organization.
