Dieser Erste Baedeker beschreibt die damals groesste Wirtschaftsmetropole Europas, die Weltstadt Amsterdam, wie sie dem Besucher 1664 erschien und entgegentrat. Zesens Text basiert auf Dr. Olfert Dappers Historische beschrijving der Stadt Amsterdam, 1663. Zesens Anordnung und Beschreibungstechnik hat sich jedoch gegenueber seiner Quelle veraendert. Beide Verleger, Joachim Noschen und Jacob Meurs, verwendeten den identischen Satz von 72 Kupferstichen von hervorragender Qualitaet. Der hollaendische Meisterstecher blieb bis heute unbekannt.
