Overview

In response to various confusions related to interaction design and information design, this book introduces the concepts and frameworks concerned to information, information design, and the emerging Interaction Design. The book creatively discusses the relationship between Human-computer Interaction (HCI), emerging design fields and other traditional design fields, also comprehensively annotates the partly-overlapped relationship among design, computer science and cognitive psychology. Moreover, this book puts forward the originally created concepts of Fields and Fields Interaction Design (FID), to lay the foundation for exploring the mainstream design methodology in the post-information society. The main aim of this study is to create a comprehensive intermediary between users and their surrounding environment by exploring Fields as a key aesthetic factor, to eventually achieve a design method for approaching better user interactive experiences from the perspective of Aesthetics. Dr. Stephen Jia Wang is an interaction designer and informational products designer. He has a Bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University of China, and a Master's from Tama Art University of Japan and RMIT of Australia. He received his PhD from Tokyo University of the Arts. Currently, he is working as Senior Lecturer & Program Leader of Interaction Design in the Faculty of Art Design & Architecture at Monash University (Australia). Stephen had gained experiences from a variety of positions including from Tokyo Zokei University (Japan) and Swinburne University (Australia). In the past ten years he has been involved in several major research projects, published and exhibited internationally. Design and research in this field requires designers to acquire basic multi-disciplinary knowledge and develop their ability and academic literacy to communicate, surpass, and integrate this knowledge... It is commendable that this book has expressed such a viewpoint creatively and systematically. --Lu Xiaobo, Vice President of China Industrial Design Association, Director and Professor of the Department of Information Art & Design at Tsinghua University In this book, Dr. Stephen Jia Wang sets Interaction Aesthetics as the mainline of interaction design... Such predictive theoretical exploration is very constructive. --Wang Mingzhi, former Vice President of Tsinghua University, former Dean of Academy of Art and Design at Tsinghua University, Specialist in Industrial Design, Professor The significance of this book lies in that it will have profound influence on a wide range of design fields, including information environment, machine, service etc. --Kijo Rokkaku, former Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, Renowned Japanese Architect, Emeritus Professor of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music
