OverviewThis handbook fulfils this need for rapid clinically relevant guidance. It is written by authors with backgrounds in fetal diagnostic ultrasound and in paediatric cardiology who work in the context of a combined secondary and tertiary prenatal, neonatal and cardiac centre. The format for the book has arisen from the authors' experience of teaching medical and other professional groups in order to run an integrated fetal cardiac service based on their tertiary centre but involving in an optimal way the surrounding secondary referral units. The book is structured to allow a presenting fetal cardiac problem to be looked up and an outline approach to be identified including information of value in immediate decision making and counselling. Dr Lawrence Impey, Consultant in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine, The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK Their combined perspective is apparent in the broad based and logical approach to the subject, which reflects a real life practical experience not just of fetal cardiac diagnosis, but crucially also of the wider clinical assessment which is so important in counselling. Ian Sullivan, Consultant Cardiologist, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, UK Author InformationAfter completing postgraduate training in paediatrics and perinatal paediatrics, Dr Archer trained in paediatric cardiology and became a consultant paediatric cardiologist in Oxford. His main research interests are in neonatal and fetal cardiology and he has written and taught in these fields in UK and abroad.
