He is director of the International Association of Inter-American Studies and founder of the Black Americas Network. Olaf Kaltmeier is chair of Iberoamerican History at Bielefeld University, Germany. He is director of the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) and founding director of the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS).
