Overview

This is the twenty-second edition of the book which first appeared in 1983. The book aims to list every passenger/vehicle ferry in Great Britain and Ireland, ro-ro freight vessels which operate regular services between Great Britain and Ireland and to nearby Continental destinations and major passenger/vehicle ferries in other parts of Northern Europe. The coverage of Northern Europe is not fully comprehensive and does not include freight-only operations and vessels -- although freight-only vessels have been included where the operators also run passenger services. Ro-ro vessels engaged in 'deep-sea' trade and those operated solely for the carriage of trade cars or paper are also not included. Each operator is listed alphabetically within sections -- international and Northern Ireland routes, domestic services, freight-only operations, chain, cable and float ferries, passenger-only ferries, other North European passenger operators and vehicle/passenger vessels owned by companies not currently engaged in operating services.After details relating to each company's management, address, telephone numbers, email, website and services, there is a fleet list with technical data and then a potted history of each vessel with previous names and dates.
