He is author of Merlin and Slieve Gullion and numerous railway articles. His illustrated talks on railways in the Ardhowen Theatre at Enniskillen have inspired this book. He is a retired Civil Servant. Norman Johnston has family roots in Fermanagh and is the grandson of a GNR Station Master who served at Newbliss and Maguiresbridge around the time of the Great War. He has written several books including 'Locomotives of the GNRI', 'The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) in colour', 'Austerity Ulster 1947-52' and 'Ulster in the 1950s'.
