Feeding People is Easy

Overview

The message of Feeding People is Easy is the most important that can be conceived. We can feed ourselves forever - without cruelty to livestock and without wrecking the rest of the world. If we do the job properly, we will create human societies that are truly agreeable, co-operative and at peace in which all manner of people with all kinds of beliefs and aspirations can be personally fulfilled. Feeding People is Easy homes in, from the onset, on the positives. It shows what each of us can do to help put things right.

Reviews

...a readable, compelling book. Feeding People is Easy is his prescription for the planet - Financial Times. A charming polemic against 'the nonsense churned out by the modern food industry. It whets the appetite, physical and moral. - The Guardian. ...a rallying cry to all of us who care not just about food and farming but also about Planet Earth and people everywhere. - Organic Gardening. This provocative book is his grand thesis for achieving (good food for everyone, forever) and what he proposes is nothing short of a new world order. Tudge has more than three decades worth of experience in his subject and his book is loaded with keen analysis and weighty statistics. - Focus. Feeding People is Easy is a remarkable book, inspiring, informative and transformative. This book integrates science, wisdom and common sense about a subject which is fundamental to human wellbeing. Colin's arguments are convincing, his writing is lucid and his philosophy is enlightening. Colin is one of the most original, radical and forward looking writers on the subject of food and farming and this book is a great achievement. All politicians, C.E.O.s of food corporations, managers of supermarkets, and everyone involved in food and farming should read this book. - Satish Kumar Editor, Resurgence Magazine. This book is a forthright challenge to the conventional wisdom on how best to feed our still rising population. Agriculture is not a business like any other, and the delusion that it is, has created bewildering problems, ranging from declining fertility of soils and increasing dependence on artificial aids to migration from country to towns and unhealthy choices of diet. Look now for original solutions from Colin Tudge. - Sir Crispin Tickell: Director of the Policy Foresight Programme at the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization at Oxford University.

Author Information

Colin Tudge cooked his first meal (an astonishingly greasy bread pudding) at the age of nine; read biological sciences at Cambridge in the early 1960s; then became a writer-mainly for New Scientist, Farmers Weekly, BBC Radio 3 and also for various agricultural research institutes; and so has been able to pursue his interest in food and farming and the underlying sciences and practicalities at first hand, in all the habitable continents. This book (his twelfth, or thereabouts) is a summary of findings so far.
