OverviewJohn Eliot's fourth collection, Feeding Fish at Fontainebleau, contains poetry of stunning clarity and musicality, a symphony of multiple realms... it bears astute witness to the vulnerability of the human heart alongside an everyday ecology. These pieces are unflinching yet tender, moving from intimate domesticity to vast existential weight, from Dylan and Patti Smith to Psalm 77 and gypsy weddings. There are tractors in the mist, butterflies in frost, and echoes of gunshots through silent fields. There is death, yes - but also bread broken at Easter, laughter by moonlight, and the resilient breath of life in every line. He taught in the south-west of England before moving to France with his wife to write full-time. He now divides his time between France and Wales. This is his fourth collection of poetry. He is co-editor of the Cross-currents series of poetry in translation. Cover illustrator and designer Amelia Clark hails from Burton upon Trent in the British Midlands, far from her current home in London's Docklands. Nature walks with her father, a particular childhood joy, led to her penchant for painting wildlife and capturing the drama of natural scenery 'en plein air'. She indulges her passion for 'analogue' art using a variety of traditional media when not plying her trade as a graphic designer. She is building a body of work called 'Art of Note' that features subjects of flora and fauna drawn, painted and hand-gilded on a collection of vintage musical scores and librettos belonging to her late mother, who the pieces commemorate.
