(Savin Treanta, zbMATH 1458.93003, 2021) Author InformationTom Moir received his first degree in Control Engineering in 1979 and a Ph.D in 1983 on Estimation theory and Control.. He worked as a lecturer at Paisley College (later Paisley University and University of the West of Scotland) in Scotland from 1983- 1999. He then moved to New Zealand and worked at Massey University school of Engineering and Advanced Technology, followed by Auckland University of Technology (AUT) where he is currently an associate professor in the school of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Whilst in Paisley he also joined a small company called Ampsys Electronics as a research and design engineer. The work entailed design and research of special circuitry on applications of the Amplitude-Locked Loop which was patented by the same company. He has published over 100 journal papers and a similar number of conference papers in signal-processing and control-systems. He is also known around the world for his pursuit in New-Zealand of a low-frequency noise prevailing in many parts of the country. This noise is commonly known as “The Hum”.
