OverviewThis September's issue of Federal Probation features a special section devoted to Exploring Risk of Violence in the federal probation system.Although general risk assessment instruments such as federal probation's Post Conviction Risk Assessment (PCRA) do a good job of evaluatingrisk of recidivism of any kind, the desire to reduce the likelihood of serious harm to the community from the violent acts of those under communitysupervision has led to a search for better dynamic prediction of the risk of violence. The five articles in this section discuss applying the riskprinciple-including risk of violence indicated by a dynamic risk assessment-to supervision, using a multi-level risk assessment in case planning, analyzing how dangerous sex offenders under federal supervision are, and exploring the idea of using sentinel event reviews in the federal system.Among the articles outside the special focus topic of this issue is a rejoinder to a high-profile ProPublica article that challenged the widelyused COMPAS risk assessment instrument as racially biased. In addition, this issue includes an article considering use of risk information atcriminal sentencing in a state system, and finally, back in the federal system, an examination of how changes in offender risk characteristics arerelated to recidivism outcomes.-Ellen Wilson FieldingEditor, Federal Probatio Full Product DetailsAuthor: Administrative Offices of T U S CourtsPublisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform Imprint: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform Dimensions: Width: 21.60cm , Height: 0.40cm , Length: 28.00cm Weight: 0.186kg ISBN: 9781542528245ISBN 10: 1542528240 Pages: 70 Publication Date: 13 January 2017 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: Available To Order ![]() We have confirmation that this item is in stock with the supplier.
