Overview

Collection of recipes compiled by Marion Sheehy. She gathered them from friends and other sources over several decades. They came from Guatemala, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Hilton Head Island, Atlanta and other places she lived where her husband worked or after they retired. Marion loved to entertain. Many of the recipes have suggestions of when to use them and what to serve with them.

Marion was born in London, Ontario in 1930. She met her husband John when he returned from WWII and he was working a Summer job in London. They got married and moved to Hamilton, ON where her first two children were born. Then John took a job in Barranquilla, Columbia and Marion, who had never traveled away from Southern Ontario, set off on an adventure that saw her live in many countries around the world. Probably her favorite stop was in Guatemala where she made many friends that she kept in touch with here whole life. She had five children. Two sons and three daughters. They were born in Canada, Costa Rica, Columbia and Guatemala. After stints in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Honduras, Belize, Saudi Arabia, and the Sudan, she and John retired to Hilton Head Island, S.C. After living there for several years they moved to suburban Atlanta. Marion loved to travel, entertain, make friends and spend time with her family. She loved to cook and even though her mother had never really taught her much about cooking she picked it up from her mother-in-law and many friends. When ever the extended family got together to celebrate family occasions or holidays she would cook these recipes and reminisce about her experiences. She was devoted to her husband and they lived happily together until John died in 2012 and she died in 2015.
