Fast Days

Overview

Fast Days by Joel Jackson tells the true story of one of the most accomplished performance groups in automotive history: the Chrysler-Shelby Performance Center. They took existing cars designed for other purposes and reinvented them into exciting performance sports cars that shattered records around the world. They set land speed records that may never be broken and bested the automobiles that helped create the Carroll Shelby legend. Fast Days celebrates this once in a lifetime period in automotive history and offers an intimate look at the personalities, mechanics, engine builders, crew chiefs, and test drivers who actually designed and built the Chrysler-Shelby platforms. This extraordinary group won races, won championships, set world records, and forever established their place in automotive history. Written in the tradition of the best in the narrative nonfiction genre, Fast Days recounts a time when original design and automotive achievement meant something special.

Author Information

Joel Jackson performed the duties of designer, fabricator, crew, and driver of his desert racer, testing himself against legendary drivers with full factory support in professional events staged by the High Desert Racing Association, SCORE International, and the famous MINT 400. Together with his wife and partner, Marty, Joel began designing, building, and developing competition automobiles for sports car racing and oval track racing, in addition to their desert racing efforts. After nearly seven years, Joel left Chrysler-Shelby and together with Marty founded their own competition automobile company, Racefab, in their home state of Texas. Racefab's first customer was Carroll Shelby, awarding Racefab a contract to build a series of identical road racing competition cars. Together Marty and Joel, along with building a company, built a family, and today Racefab is owned and operated by Marty, Joel, and their two sons, Jefferson and Jason, who have grown up in the automobile world.
