He received his BS in Agronomy from the University of Illinois, his MS in Crop Science from the University of Kentucky, and his PhD in Crop Science from the University of Georgia. His primary research areas are the environmental fate of pesticides (especially herbicides) in soils, water systems, and in the air (via drift), and the confirmation and subsequent control of herbicide-resistant weeds. He has published over 120 refereed articles in various journals. He has served on a US-EPA Scientific Advisory Board, as an associate editor for the technical journals Weed Science and Weed Technology, and on the executive board for the Weed Science Society of America.
