OverviewThis is an amazing true story. In 1681 William Dampier sailed around the world. What he saw and what he did will amaze you. If you are a traveller or a sailor you will not believe how the world has changed. If you are sailing or visiting these countries you will be enthralled to know what used to be here. How life used to be. Times have certainly changed. When people talk about the good old days you might like to produce this book and see what they think after reading it. This 2018 edition includes a code which opens on your phone videos, notes, maps, photos, reviews, Wikipedia etc so you can understand where he is and what he is talking about and what it might be like today compared to 400 years ago. When this book was published in 1697 it was a sensation. It is today. You will probably agree. William Dampier, an orphan of Weymouth, England, spent twelve and a half years as a pirate, plundering ships in the West Indies and Central America, and eventually making his way across the Pacific to the Philippines, the East Indies, and Australia. Having set out in 1679, he returned home in 1691 and published his carefully-kept journal in 1697; it proved to be a sensation. Dampier may have been a buccaneer, but he was such an astute observer of people, places, and natural history that his works are often included with the publications of more explicitly scientific expeditions. This book deserves a place on every modern day sail boat.
