Overview

Between 1871 and 2024, twenty-three Wichita police officers have given their lives in the line of duty. They all died in different ways, at various times, under distinct circumstances, but they all died while serving the citizens of the city. From its boom-and-bust days of the 1880s to the current sophisticated period of drug and gang violence, this memorial provides details about the officers' deaths with the hope that it leads to deeper case studies and more research into the Department's eventful history. By understanding their stories, we take steps to not repeat the tragic events of the Department's past, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we make Wichita's future better for everyone.
