Overview

"Educators around the world will agree that mixing two seemingly-unrelated subject matters will increase interest and retention. Parents will agree that bizarre trivia and food oddly have the power to lure their children away from technology. This isn't just any food though. These are recipes from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many are from a time period before the electric stove. These recipes range from simple ingredients to some very unique ingredients, and are guaranteed not to involve a microwave. This book highlights several classic, ""fairly-popular,"" fairy tales and verses. I've researched these fairy tales and verses and included interesting, whimsical, and downright bizarre information about their origins. I've sat in my library floor, carefully scouring through the pages of my antique cookbooks and have located the most special recipes to pair with each story. The recipes are shared with you exactly as they were originally written. Relish the idiosyncrasies that were the building blocks for modern cookery. Your children are sure to find amusement in the measurement and grammatical differences. Now, you can discuss Goldilocks from a whole new perspective while cooking porridge from a 1905 cookbook!"

She and Guy have decided to raise their family in a castle and (in their free time, ha!) have been renovating a 2-bedroom house built in the '40s into a castle featuring turrets, circular staircases, hidden rooms, and a two-story library. Previously, Jill K. Holliday served as a Regional Director of Operations for New River Community and Technical College. In 2015, Jill was honored by The State Journal as one of West Virginia's 40 Under 40. Prior to administration, Jill was a faculty member for Hospitality, Tourism and Entrepreneurship. Jill has served on the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley, Inc., Princeton Community Hospital Foundation, and Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce. Jill received her B.A. from Concord University in Interdisciplinary Studies. She also holds a Masters in Education for Assessment and Evaluation. Jill currently serves as Good Old-Fashioned Inn Keeper for Castle Lodging, LLC and VP of Misc. Stuff and Director of First Impressions at Castle Creations, LLC.
