The notes promised in the Preface to Vol. II have been taken into the Glossary, in the final revision of which I have received valuable help from Mr. F. Adams, whose services in connexion with the Metrical Life of St. Cuthbert are mentioned in the Preface to the Surtees Society's edition of that work, and from Mr. R. Oliver Heslop, the learned and obliging editor of the Northumber land Glossary, as well as from the friends named in the Introduction to the present volume, pp. Lxvi, lxvii.
