It covers a brief summary of the metallurgical processes including physical chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, and heat/mass balance. Many of the scientific and engineering aspects of unit processes have been discussed. Applications of metallurgical thermodynamics and kinetics to the process metallurgy are explained as well. All basic concepts and definitions related to metal extraction are also covered.

Sujay Kumar Dutta, Ph.D. (Process Metallurgy, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur), is former Professor and Head at Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, Faculty of Technology and Engineering, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. With nearly four decades of teaching and research experience, he has published/presented 120 papers in national, international journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Dutta has also authored several books in the area of metallurgical engineering. Avinash B. Lele, M.Tech. (Extractive Metallurgy, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay), is former Professor at Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, Faculty of Technology and Engineering, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. With four decades of teaching and research experience, he has published/presented several papers in national, international journals and conference proceedings. Yakshil B. Chokshi, ME (Industrial Metallurgy), is with Metallurgy Department, Government Polytechnic Rajkot. He has published/presented several papers in national, international journals and conference proceedings.
