Dr. Katie Sprute is a distinguished leader with two decades of expertise in the fields of education, project management, and leadership. She earned her Ph.D. in General Psychology, specializing in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, from Grand Canyon University. Dr. Sprute serves as a Senior Faculty Chair in the Department of Online Teaching and Learning at Grand Canyon University. Additionally, she is the co-owner of a small business and actively engages in community volunteering, consulting, and research activities. Her research interests include structural empowerment, job embeddedness, the application of AI in higher education, and fostering community among remote employees. Dr. Sprute has contributed significantly to the academic community with publications such as “Structural Empowerment: The Next Step for University Support of Online Adjunct Faculty” and “Becoming One Faculty in Pursuit of Student Success”. Rick Holbeck , EdS, serves as the Executive Director of the Department of Online Teaching and Learning at Grand Canyon University, where he leads innovative initiatives to enhance digital education and support faculty development. As editor of the Journal of Instructional Research, Rick champions scholarly discourse and research in effective teaching practices, consistently raising standards for instructional quality. With over 30 years of diverse experience in education, including K-12 and higher education, Rick has cultivated a reputation for visionary leadership and dedication to student success. He has guided teams of instructional designers, overseen the development of robust online curricula, and fostered collaborative partnerships across departments to support the university’s mission and the evolving needs of online learners. Currently pursuing an EdD in Instructional Technology, Rick’s research focuses on the integration of generative AI in online teaching, exploring its potential for improving student engagement, personalization, and ethical considerations in digital instruction. His academic interests also encompass new models of faculty training, assessment, and educational innovation. Rick is passionate about developing future educational leaders and is a dedicated instructor of graduate and educational leadership courses.
