He has held several visiting positions in America, Europe and Asia, the most recent being a one-semester visiting professorship in the School of English, The University of Hong Kong, for four consecutive academic years (2003-2007). The author has published a wide range of journal articles, book chapters, monographs and textbooks on several aspects of general and applied linguistics, phonology, sociolinguistics and language teaching.
