Overview

The research presented here portrays aspects of everyday life in a school community in the municipality of Corumbá, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Its main objective is to identify strategies and articulations related to democratic management, based on the relationships between the school and the community, present in the construction and development of pedagogical actions in the municipality's Special Program for Comprehensive Education. The empirical research was based on observations, field notes, conversations, and interviews with individuals from the school and the neighborhood community, articulating theory and practice as fundamental elements in the construction of the research, highlighting how the democratic process of the school has been taking place, evidenced by three categories: Democracy, Power, and Participation. Priority was given to a closer look at actions related to training, from an emancipatory perspective, capable of promoting the autonomy of those involved in the educational process and, furthermore, the comprehensive and integrated training of students for life. What can be considered is that there is a discourse of democracy that is not effective in practice.
