Overview

A support worker is someone who looks after the well-being of people in their daily lives. They help people living with different physical disabilities and mental health needs to live their lives more independently and support them to reach their potential by providing both physical and emotional support. This book comes from nearly 15 years experience working in the field of social care, specifically with people with learning disabilities and Autism. It comes from first hand experience and aims to use my learning to give help to others finding themselves in this type of work, and also to show all the aspects of support work, an underrated and under appreciated job, that's harder than many people think. The book covers many aspects about supporting people from sexuality, behaviour management, bureaucracy, working with families and much more. Using real life stories and experiences to illustrate the often unpredictable world of social care.
