Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationOle Crumlin-Pedersen (+ 2011) spent the greater part of his life in charge of Denmark's maritime heritage as a curator of maritime archaeology and ships at the Danish National Museum (1962-2003). In 1993, a major ten-year grant from The Danish National Research Foundation enabled Crumlin-Pedersen to expand the Roskilde institutions into an international research centre, at which maritime archaeology could be studied in its broader archaeological and historical context. Hanus Jensen is educated as a traditional Faroese boatbuilder and has been involved in several experimental archaeological research projects, building full-scale reconstructions of prehistoric and historic ship-finds. As well as the practical work involved in building the reconstructions, Hanus Jensen has also conducted research projects on the production of treenails and the use of tools for shipbuilding in the Viking Age, as well as prehistoric Scandinavian shipbuilding technologies in general.
