At any rate he accepted the invitation, and in April 1632, arrived in London and took up his residence in a house in Blackfriars, being also provided with summer apartments in the King's House at Eltham. Charles immediately made him Principal Painter in Ordinary to their Majesties, and on J uly 5, three months after his arrival, conferred upon him the honour of knighthood.
