Author Information

Carole M. Schneider, PhD, is a cofounder and director of the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute, which helps cancer survivors regain their quality of life through exercise interventions. A cancer survivor, Dr. Schneider is a professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Her background in exercise and cancer recovery includes conducting clinical and basic research and the development of a certificate in cancer rehabilitation. Dr. Schneider is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a member of the Colorado Cancer Coalition, and she is the recipient of numerous grants from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She earned a PhD in exercise physiology from the University of Minnesota. Carolyn A. ""Cad"" Dennehy, PhD, is professor emeritus at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). She cofounded the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute at UNC and served as director of programs and education from 1996 to 2002. At present, she is founder and president of Second Wind Cancer Rehabilitation, a privately owned company that provides symptom management services to cancer patients. Dr. Dennehy has published books and articles and authored numerous successful grants. She continues to conduct research on the benefits of exercise for cancer patients both during and after treatment. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Colorado Cancer Coalition. Dr. Dennehy received her PhD from Texas Woman's University in exercise physiology. She resides in Estes Park, Colorado. Susan D. Carter, MD, is a cofounder and medical director of the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute. She is involved in all aspects of the Institute, providing leadership and professional expertise to students and faculty involved in clinical practice and research. Dr. Carter is a gynecological surgeon and operates a private practice in Greeley, Colorado. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgery and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is an active member of the Cancer Committee at North Colorado Medical Center, director of the Regional Breast Cancer Center of Northern Colorado, and a member of the Colorado Cancer Coalition. Dr. Carter is involved in numerous American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation projects. She is a physician at the North Colorado Sportsmedicine Clinic and is one of the project directors for a breast cancer genetic research project. Dr. Carter received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed an internship at Hermann Hospital/M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas.
