Exercices d’histoire des religions is a collection of the most important articles published by Philippe Borgeaud during his career as the professor of history of religions at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). These nineteen studies showcase the many reflections of the Swiss scholar of religion on the categories and tools used to describe and compare such evanescent concepts as “religions”, “myths” and “rituals”, and his methodology for a critical and comparative study of ancient and modern religions. Author Information

Philippe Borgeaud (1946) is Professor of history of religions at the University of Geneva (1986-2011). A specialist of ancient Greece, he is the author of many publications including Aux origines de l’histoire des religions (2004). Daniel Barbu, PhD (1981), University of Bern, is a historian of religions specialized in the history of Judaism. He is the author of Naissance de l’idolâtrie: identité, image, religion (2016). Philippe Matthey, PhD (1977), University of Liège, is a historian of religions specialized in the study of ancient Egyptian and Greek mythologies, and their influence on each other, a topic on which he published multiple articles. Philippe Borgeaud (1946) est professeur honoraire d'histoire des religions à l'Université de Genève. Spécialiste de la Grèce antique, il est l'auteur de nombreuses publications parmi lesquelle Aux origines de l'histoire des religions (2004). Daniel Barbu, Dr. (1981), Université de Berne, est historien des religions, spécialisé dans l'histoire du judaïsme. Il est l'auteur de Naissance de l'idolâtrie : identité, image, religion (2016).
